This place gives chiropractics a bad name. I had a shockingly poor experience with Dr. Jay, both in terms of service and care. He was arrogant and misogynistic, not to mention the fact that he failed to diagnose and treat my condition effectively... leaving me in more pain than I came in with until he finally did what I'd asked him to do when I came in.

I am a competitive female athlete at an elite level and a professional coach. I regularly get bodywork from several different practitioners to maintain the high volume and intensity of my training. I came to Dr. Jay after I experienced a severe muscle spasm in my subscap while testing a max lift in training. I needed immediate care to address the inflammation and my usual chiro wasn't available, so I searched for a local practitioner that offered cold laser and soft tissue treatment.

When I got there Dr. Jay asked me a few basic questions. When I told him what I was doing when the injury occurred, he jokingly made the comment, "Really, I thought only guys went into the gym to see who could lift the most weight." If I wasn't in so much pain I would've walked out right then: (A) As if I only lift heavy weight to feed my own ego...never mind increasing top-end strength, developing CNS adaptation, or simply the fact that competing in my sport demands performing max lifts; (B) As if weightlifting is a man's game and a female doesn't belong there... has he never seen a female athlete before?

After that he did a couple quick tests, one of which consisted of pushing down on the top of my head to see if it hurt. Of course it did--the muscle spasm runs up my neck and I can barely turn my head! From this he concluded with extreme confidence that I had slipped a disk in my neck. Regardless of the fact that I'm experienced and know my body well enough to know that it wasn't likely that I had slipped a disk.... YOU DON'T TELL AN ATHLETE THAT THEY'VE SLIPPED A DISK WITHOUT RUNNING MUCH MORE EXTENSIVE TESTING AND BEING VERY SURE OF YOURSELF. Do you have any idea what that does to an athlete mentally and emotionally?! The stress and panic that you've just unnecessarily caused? It was a cookie cutter answer to hearing that I had been hurt putting heavy weight over my head, and is either a mark of incompetence, or a deliberate scare tactic. He then proceeded to insult the work and diagnostics of my regular chiro, implying that I probably shouldn't see him again, and touting his own experience (which is simply unprofessional).

To make things worse, he then informed me in a highly condescending tone that I should in future avoid lifting heavy weights, and instead stick to lifting lighter loads at higher volume, because that would give me the same results! OMG... I CAN'T EVEN TELL YOU HOW IGNORANT, ARROGANT, AND MISOGYNISTIC THAT STATEMENT IS. The only reason that would be a true statement is if you assume that my goal is purely aesthetics or general fitness. But I've already told him that I am a COMPETITIVE ATHLETE. I train for performance. I train to win. Dr. Jay is either completely ignorant to the principles of physical fitness, or does not believe that women can/should be athletes. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and advise that if you don't know what you're talking about you should simply stay quiet about it.

EVEN WORSE - After doing more extensive testing, including x-rays, he of course concluded that I hadn't slipped a disk after all. Then he proceeded to treat me with seemingly every tool available to him EXCEPT the cold laser and manual soft tissue work that I had informed him I typically respond well to. When he was done I was in SO MUCH MORE PAIN THAN I STARTED IN THAT I WAS SOBBING. It wasn't until he finally did a cold laser and soft tissue treatment (this took max 15 minutes and I'd been in there for almost 2 hours at that point), that I finally felt a bit better and was able to drive home.

Needless to say, my regular chiro saw me 2 days later and I was pain-free in an hour. I won't be back.
